It asks about various GUI elements you find unsatisfactory about Windows and
Microsoft apps. I gave them an earful about the lack of contrast of the fonts
used in the Windows Live Mail message list pane, and the same for the
Windows Explorer details view in Windows 7.
I hope you all will do the same.

Yes, I agree. I had to increase IE's zoom to 125% just to be able to read it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Gary. I had to use a magnifier, but I
did the survey. I hope they receive lots of responses and then take
action. But I am not holding my breath!

Thanks for posting that, Gary. Let's hope all the others complaining about
WLMail's UI take the survey and make their points.

Incidentally, do you or anyone know what mailhc.thm does? It's a 'Windows
Live Mail High Contrast Theme Resources' file lurking in my program folder,
and I suspect it's just waiting for Wave 4 to come along to activate it.

Hi, Noel.

OK. I did it. I had lots of complaints - about the GUI of Win7, WLM - and
of the survey itself.

The helpful hints on each page were easier to follow once I realized that
they were using the GUI interface to the Control Panel, rather than the
Classic look that I normally use. When I click Start | Control Panel, I
don't normally see "Appearance and Personalization", as they expect; I have
to first click Personalization.

But choosing View | Text size in IE8 did no good; the text size for the
survey didn't change. I used the Magnifier on my Microsoft mouse, but then
I had to scroll sideways to see each Next button. And the "which
resolution" question didn't even list my 1280 x 1024 size as an option.

Oh, well. We can hope that it will do some good. But I guess we'll have to
wait for Win8 - or at least Live Wave 4 - to find out.

Wouldn't it be the differences that it already does provide
in HC mode? E.g. such things as [+] and [-] box instead of
the two arrow icons for contracting threads, for one.

You could try running ProcMon and toggle HC on and off
to see if that file is read from when it is toggled on... ; )
