I've noticed an error message at the bottom of www.jacobschimes.com:

Error: Unable to read footer file.

I can't find any problem. The page is fairly simple. There IS no footer.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Stephen Green

Whatever the problem is, it is after the </html> tag in the page. Have you
looked at the HTML?

The footer may have been configured in IIS Manager. If you
have access, right-click the Web server entry, choose
Properties, click the Documents tab, and clear Enable
Document Footer.

Otherwise, ask your host to dot his for you.

Thanks for the answers. I know it's NOT in the HTML code. I haven't got
direct access to the IIS Manager. I called my host's (Interland) tech
support and asked them to check it out.

The tech took a look at the page and DID NOT see the error message. He was
using IE (6.x, I think) on Windows 2000. I'm using IE 6.x on Windows 89 SE.

That prompted me to check out how the page looked in Netscape (6.2). The
error message ISN'T there using NS.

Anyway, I mentioned what you suggested, Jim, and he said he'd try that.
We'll see...

Stefan!

Thanks for your suggestion. That code doesn't exist on the page in
question. In fact, it shouldn't exist anywhere in my website.

Last time I checked the page (www.jacobschimes.com) the spurious error
message was gone. Perhaps my hosts made the change that Jim suggested in
the IIS Manager.

BTW, where would that code have come from? Is it FrontPage generated?

Thanks.

I just went there, and it is still there. I believe this is coming from the
web server. It is a configuration setting in IIS. I imagine that the
configuration setting is pointing to a file location that doesn't exist. In
any case, if this is so, only your hosting service can fix it.

Kevin!

I just checked and I DON'T see the error message!

What's going on here?

(I did pass on Jim's suggestion about IIS Manager to Interland. I assumed
they had acted on it since I no longer saw the error...)

Thanks.

Stephen

Looks like it's gone now

It could have come from you, your host, or a virus on your host

IMHO I would talk to your host

That IFrame tag launched a hidden counter or page tracker

That's what I suspected when I followed the IFrames

PS - Interland may have gotten better, but I stopped using them over a year ago because their tech support had no idea about FP SE
and security settings (several times found my clients webs totally open to anyone!)

| Stefan & everyone else who took the time to help!
|
| After another call to Interland, I learned that this footer problem is a
| result of malicious code that is part of an "Attack" on the Interland
| severs. It is affecting the IIS settings and not my (our) sites directly.
| Apparently, the code tries to hijack/redirect the users browser using the
| <iframe> tag.
|
| They are working on this fast and furious...
|
| Thanks for all your help.
