Please advise: anti-virus for our company

Hi,

We're looking for a new anti-virus solution for our company (14 workstations
(WindowsXP), 3 servers (1 x Exchange, 2 fileservers (all Windows 2003)).

Somebody advised me NOD32 for our workstations. Does NOD32 also have a good
Exchange solution? Do I have to choose the same solution for my workstations
as my servers? What do you consider to be the best software in my case?

Many people think it's a good idea to have different scanners
on the two platform types. Then, if one misses something,
there's a chance the other will catch it.

A tiered approach from multiple vendors is considered the best. This means:

An AV solution at the gateway.
An AV solution for the servers.
An AV solution for the desktops.

Of course it can be expensive, but the approach works well.

Of what you consider, ensure that the gateway solution is capable of
scanning at least the basic protocols (HTTP, SMTP, FTP, etc.) Ensure that
the server solution is fully compatible with MS Exchange. Ensure that the
desktop solution is fast, does not require any manual intervention by the
end-user, and most important can be administered remotely.

If you had to select two of the three, I would opt for the desktop and
gateway solutions.

NOD32 does indeed come with an Exchange module, I have it installed on one
customer site with 15 clients and a server and it runs very nicely. I
highly recommend NOD32 for a server/client environment as well as smaller
networks and single PCs.

The only problem you may face with different vendors for server and clients
is that the server usually provides a local update mirror and installation
"pusher" - if you do not use the same product on a server this may not be
possible, depending on the product (some only allow such features on
computer detected as running Windows Server).

You may also lose the ability to centrally manage and view the status of
all of the client computers.
