Hi,

I have a stand alone Windows 2000 Server and a Stand alone Windows 2003
Server.

Two different domains. Every Week on a Monday, both Servers will not allow
any user to access their files from their Desktops until the Server's are
reboted.

Any advice on what is causing this?

Thanks
Dib

Hi,

Server.

A standalone server cannot be participating in a domain. Only a member
server can have an account in a domain. Standalone servers exist in
Workgroups only.

The next question would be what errors, if any, appear in the Event log(s)
pertaining to this issue? Is there a service status that indicates an error
condition? How about enabling audits to determine the reason for the logon
failures?

Have you considered using Scheduled tasks + shutdown to reboot the servers
early Monday mornings as a temporary fix?

The Server's have their Domain, and the Client PC are connected as
Workgroup.
I did not look in the Event viewer but the error I am getting is "Path not
found" when trying to view shared folder. The Servers are configured with
DHCP. So I don't know if that is cauing the problem.

Thanks
Dib

Now i'm confused, only Win9x client PCs can participate in a domain without
a computer account. W2K and XP clients MUST have a computer account to
participate in a domain (not to mention user credentials). So do you have a
domain or not? Or is this just a Workgroup? The difference is critical.

Since W2K and XP systems rely on DNS servers to resolve names, have you a
DNS server available on the network? If not, did you specify host file
entries to resolve server names?

The Servers have a domain and the clients PC XP pro. are on a Workgroup. the
users and created on the server.

the only thing is on Monday when users try to open their files on the Server
they get an error "PAth not found". so when you re-boot the server
everything works fine. There is nothing set on the server that tells it
that users are not allowed to access files after 7 days.

Thanks again

Your description of the network doesn't make sense, if the servers are
members or DCs in a domain, the XP clients on a workgroup WILL NOT and
CANNOT be authenticated on a domain unless the clients cease to be
participating in a workgroup and join the domain. Basic NT 101.
