When I try to open a video clip that has been e-mailed to me windows movie
maker pops up and an error message displays that says it cannot open file
etc. How can I make 'windows media player" the default player. I am using
XP Home edition. Thanks for any help.

I am curious as to the extension of the file that is emailed
to you. It should be either .wmv, .mpg, .avi. If it is
..mswmm the person emailed you a windows movie maker project
file and not the finished movie. This would be the normal
program to open that type of file.

If it is one of the other extensions, you should save the
file to the hard disk first and not try to view it from the
email. Once saved to the drive, right click on the file in
Windows Explorer and then left click on Open With. Once the
Open With window appears scroll down the list or browse for
Windows Media Player. Once found, make sure that the button
for Always use the selected program..... is checked and then
click on OK.

An alternate method is to click on Tools, Folder Options,
File Types tab. Scroll down to the extension in question.
Click the Change button and select the program name just
like you did with the previous example.

Thanks much LV Travel
