Playing music and surfing don't mix WHY!!!!!

When I am surfing the web while playing musics from various
players (Media Player, iTunes, One) my networking
performance slows down consideriably. As soon as I stop
playing music the networking performance speeds back up.
Does anybody know why or have any suggestions?

I have a cable modem with a wireless connection on an new
2.6GHz Dell. It takes about 5 sec to load 6 web pages at
once vs. minutes when playing music.

Forgot to mention that I have 512 MB of memory running at
400 MHz and it's not fully used when this happens.
