Hello

Is it possible to insert a mpeg2 video clip into Powerpoint 2003, as well as being able to adjust the video size, toolbar, etc.
Thank you

Kevin

KV, yes it is, however you will want to make certain the Mpeg-2 file meets
the standard.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello Kevin,

In PowerPoint 2003, any video that plays in Media Player (mplay32.exe) or
Windows Media Player should insert and play in PowerPoint on the same
system simply by using the Insert -> Movies and Sounds -> Movie from
File... command. Does this not work for you?

However, using this method you do not have the option to have a toolbar(?)
included (do you mean a playback controls bar?). You can simulate some of
the playback control using Action Buttons and which trigger movie animation
effects for the inserted MPEG-2 file (play, pause, stop).

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that it's important that
PowerPoint provide an option for on-screen playback controls for media
files inserted this way (not having to rely on an ActiveX control, for
example), don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to
Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)

Doesn't MPEG2 require a purchased codec? I know you can't play MPEG2
content in Windows Media Player unless you installed a codec or DVD player
software.

This previous statement satisfies the requirement that necessary codecs are
on the system.

If they're not there the media won't play in either Windows Media Player or
Media Player (mplay32.exe). It's true of ANY compressed media file that you
need to have the proper codecs installed on your system. It's just more
problematic to get the codecs for some formats because their proprietary or
require special licensing (such as MPEG-2).
