Dianah

I have a midi file that I want to play at the end of a powerpoint (XP)
presentation. It doesn't look like Powerpoint will work with that format!
Do I have to convert to a wav ... and if so ... is there a free way to do
so? It's a volunteer presentation and it's just a pretty piece of music
for the end.

I've got Windows Media Player (9). Thanks.

Please tell us more about why you don't think that the midi will work.
PowerPoint 2002 plays midis fine. What is happening? What isn't happening?

ok ... here's the message that PPT XP gives me when I try to insert a sound.

"Powerpoint can't play the sound file "filename.mid". Make sure that
this is a .wav audiofile and that audio settings are properly configured for
your system.

Sonia ... that's a pretty clear message to me. It simply won't let me
insert it. DianaH

Well ... it would seem that there's more than one way to skin this cat.
I was attaching it to a graphic because I wanted it to play at the end of
the slide ... I just tried inserting it by itself and that was the trick.
Interesting. I was sure I'd added midi sounds to an image before, but
obviously not.
I'm glad I posted ... it made me try something else rather than trying to
find a way to convert. Saved me a bit of time.

Sound files added to transitions and to animations must be WAVs. That's an
easy one to forget. I'm glad you figured it out.

Hello Dianah,

PowerPoint does not include the ability to embed audio formats other than
*.WAV audio files with animations or transitions.

Of course, If you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly that
the ability to embed other kinds of audio formats should be a built-in
feature in PowerPoint, don't forget to send your suggestion, and the
reasons why it is important to you, to Microsoft at:

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

Well, I ended up just placing it beside the screen, because imbedding it
caused problems. When I have an image that I fade in, then out, then in
again later ... the sound plays each and every time. That isn't what I want
and poweropint won't handle it any other way. It seems to default to
embedding that sound to that image no matter what the animation happens to
be. If this isn't clear, let me kow.

You are right. I was able to add the midi, but just couldn't select them to
be attached to an item (embedded) ... interesting. The slide presentation
went "very" well tonight. I'm getting closer and closer to getting it to
look like Flash. I told a John and responded that I'm hoping for a layers
feature, but I guess it isn't an option in 2003 yet ... booooooo.
