Hi,

I want to play video without launching Media Player in devices with
WM2003, WM2003SE and Windows Mobile 5.0.

I've understood from Alex Feinman's post
http://blog.opennetcf.org/afeinman/CommentView,guid,1dfc3c39-d3cc-4faa-b5f6-cb5c9aed61dd.aspx
that Windows Media Player 10 is needed in order to play video with CF
2.0.

The problem is I cannot download Windows Media Player 10 from anywhere
for my PPC2003 device! I've read WMP10 is not available as a separate
download, that some vendors will make it available as a ROM Upgrade,
but only for Windows Mobile 2003SE, not for WM2003 or PP2003.

That means I cannot play video in my PPC2003 device using this
technique of hosting ActiveX controls?

I've downloaded and tried Odyssey's CFCOM but samples are not working
in my HP iPAQ h5500.

I would really apprecite any help on this! Thanks very much in advance.

Downloading CFCOM won't help as it also uses an ActiveX control, which is
simply not present in WMP9.
If your device contains DirectShow components, they may be used for videoo
playback, but it is not a trivial excercise

Hi Alex,

I now understand why the samples downloaded from CFCOM's web did not
work the other day in my PPC2003 device (with WMP9).

DirectShow components? No idea at all! Perhaps you could give me some
hints but if you say it's not a trivial exercise.........
I assume I can forget the idea of playing video in devices with Media
Player 9 and below, that is, devices with PPC2003 and below.

I have two devices with Windows Mobile 2003 SE and I'm waiting for an
upgrade to see if I can get Media Player 10 on them. Once I've got
WMP10, I'll try playing video following your example.

It's a pity I cannot play video wihout launching Media Player in my
WM2003 device. There is no other way for launching Media Player in
"silent mode" or something similar?

Thanks a lot.

I'm afraid so.
