I have created a VCD of friend's wedding and would like to play it on my
PC (XP pro).
What software do I need? It is a VCD not a SVCD.
Thanks

Any DVD playback software usually does it. THe LG drive should've come
with Cyberlinks PowerDVD. Alternatively use Winamp.

That's correct. In fact, you should be able to watch it on TV on your
home DVD player.

If you don't have DVD playing capability on your PC, I've used Quick
VCD. Works great.

You can play it with almost any video playing software. WMP will play it
- just drag/open the .dat file (it's the LARGE file) and it will play

You don't need anything fancy for the occasional playing of a VCD if you
have Windows Media Player

Open Media player then click FILE >> OPEN
Browse your VCD for (.dat) files in the MPEGAV folder . eg. AVSEQ01.dat
Double click to play.

Tip: To make it easier for future playing (RIGHT CLICK) >> OPEN WITH >>
CHOOSE PROGRAM >> WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER
Click the checkbox ALWAYS USE THE SELECTED PROGRAM TO OPEN THIS KIND OF
FILE.

Hope this helps

Thanks. The small AVIs play fine, but it is the JPG photos I don't know
how to "play" as there is a list of about 100 photos to be seen. I
played all the DAT files in the MPEGAV folder so am wondering what else
I need to do.
Nero shows a layout whereby the photos would be on screen in a grid and
I presume you would then use the remote to go from one photo to the
next.
In the SEGMENT folder there are 100 plus DAT files starting from
ITEM0001.DAT to ITEM0115.DAT. I try and drag the file onto WMP and get
this error:
"Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error."
Now I am stumped as to how I would see what the VDC would look like
(especially the photos) before making a CD of it. Ideas of what else I
need to know?
Thanks

I've never had any experience with photos on VCD but I presume Media player
wont play them anyway.

Try a photo viewer / editor. For freeware you can't beat Irfanview but if
they are JPG I would experiment with opening them in Internet Explorer or
Paint (XP) first if don't have anything else.
