Play Me game on Xp? possible?

I recently bought a game on e-bay, came to find out that it wasn't made
for my operating system. The game was made for Windows Me, and I have
Windows Xp Home. **fatal error** is the message I get when I try to
play it. The game installed just fine, but shows a black screen and I
have to use the task manager to exit. Please tell me there is
something I can do about this, I can't return the game and I'm not
spending $100 or more just to buy an out-dated operating system.

What is the game?
Have you tried running it with the compaibilty mode set to Win98/ME?
It may be able to be run in DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/)

The game is Fallout Tactics.
Requires Pentium 2 (or compatible), Windows 95/98/2000/and Me...I have
a Celeron, v.2002 Windows XP Home Edition.

How do I change the 'compaibilty' mode to Win98/ME?
I don't believe this game was made to run in DOS, but I tried
DosBox...ineffective, same *fatal* error message:

C:\dev\phoenix\display\directx7\dd7_display.cpp(715):**fatal
error**: Could not create primary and back surfaces

Sounds to me like a problem with direct x v.7...which I don't have and
v.8 comes with the game, which I've tried, also v.9 and v.10; it's as
if direct x isn't able to make primary or back surfaces or
something...
Funny thing is, no part of that file exists on my computer or the
game disks...

Fallout Tactics works fine in XP. Have you installed all of the patches
for it? Hope you have a fast internet connection....
