I've heard it is possible to play a DVD in a regular CD-
ROM drive, but the person telling me about it could not
recall the name of the software.

Any suggestions?

I must say im not an expert in any way bout these things
but from my knowledge, this is just a rumor.
The lens in a cd drive most likely does not have a small
enough apeture to read a dvd as the dvd tracks are a hell
of a lot smaller than a cd.
Sory to disapoint you but as I said dont take my word for
it. Ps:DVD Drives are relitavley cheap these days. You can
pick one up for around 90-100 Dolars.
Good Luck.

Ok,

But I think that to copy a DVD to a CD-R you need a DVD reader..........

True and then some codec to change the size of the files. And this copy may
not be legal!
DVD and CD don't use the same wave lenght of LASER, that's why you can get
more data in the first one.

Ther is a software name 'SuperDecoder 2000' that can play
DVD movies from DVD Disk on your regular 52x CD-ROM drive
but with a little interupt. Enjoy!!!!
