I am having a problem with my windows XP. The problem occurs when I want to
play music. I click on “startâ€, then “my music†and the window opens with
the folders for the artists I have placed on my computer. I click a folder.
On the left side, it says “music tasksâ€. One of the tasks is to “play allâ€.
When I click “play allâ€, a “move items†box appears on the screen asking me
where I want to move the items to that are in the folder. I click cancel and
it reappears a second time. I click cancel a second time and the music pops
up and starts to play. It appears that “play all†is somehow associated with
“move itemsâ€. How do I correct this so it simply plays all the first time I
click it?

I'm going to hazard a guess that the details for the tasks for this
folder have corrupted somehow. Here's something to try:

1. Right-click on the background of the folder in Explorer, and choose
Properties.
2. Go to the Customize tab.
3. In the top drop-down, change the choice to "Documents (for any file
type) and click the Apply button.
4. Now change the choice to the most appropriate Music choice for that
folder, and click Apply/OK.

With any luck, that will have reset the tasks for that folder. If that
doesn't work, I'd be checking out for spyware etc that may have grabbed
onto something in your system.

Hmmm . . . when I right click the background of the folder, a window opens
that contains properties on the bottom. I click properties and a window
opens that says "my music properties". However, the only tabs are labeled
"general" and "sharing". I don't see a "customize" tab.

Am I in the right spot?

I too have the same trouble. I click on Play Selection Or Play All in the
Music Tasks box and the Move Items box comes up. If I cancel or X out of that
then the Copy Items box comes up. If I cancel or X out of that then Media
Player 10 app opens and the music starts. I have tried to change the folder
properties through the Customize tab but to no avail. I suspect it occurred
possibly when I installed iTunes or Real Player. I tried uninstalling both
apps and still the problem remains. I would prefer not to revert back using
System Restore. I think if the right person reads this, they will be able to
tell us what needs to be corrected in the registry for the Play All and Play
Selection command line in the Music Tasks box.

Here is what I tried so far. I used ShellView to disable all the Context
Menus, one at a time, starting with non-Microsoft ones. The only one that did
anything was the WMP Play As Playlist Launcher Yes Context Menu Windows Media
Player Launcher 10.00.00.3646 Microsoft(R) Windows Media Player Microsoft
Corporation No No No C:\WINDOWS\system32\wmpshell.dll {CE3FB1D1-02AE-4a5f-A6E9-D9F1B4073E6C} 04/08/2004 7:00:00 AM 17/01/2005 6:24:58 AM Yes
and with this Context Menu disabled the Play All or Selection icrled through
Move, Copy, Move, Copy and then nothing.

I also used a registry tweak that was to fix Play All from
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm but it did nothing. This tweak
may help those of you with the Play All that does nothing but I am still
stuck cancelling out of the Move and Copy features before Play All and Play
Selection will open Midia Player 10 and play all or just the selection.
