I am trying to place a regular phone call using my standered modem from
laptop using Windows XP Home Edition on my personal home telephone land line.
Can someone advise me on how this can be done? I appreciate any help given.

Some Address books and other software, such as Palm Desktop, have
dialers. Once the number is dialed, you pick up the phone, and cancel
the call on the laptop. Is that what you wanted to do?

If your modem has speech capabilities (voicemail), you can continue the
conversation with the laptop's mic and speakers. In that case, the
modem probably came with the appropriate software.
