Placing HD temporarily in another PC

I've got a WinXP PC that's HD needs to be f-disked but I want to copy
some data off it before f-disking. (This HD has a software issue
causing it to boot to a black screen and this can't be fixed without
f-disking, but that's not the issue).

I was advised by a technical friend that I could put the HD into
another PC I have (a Win98 PC) in place of that PC's CDROM player,
then the Win98 PC will see the extra HD and I can copy the data from
the temp HD to the Win98's HD.

This all sounds fine and I've put the XP HD into the Win98 PC. But the
Win98 PC doesn't "see" the extra HD.

The CD is usually the "E" drive, and now (with the extra HD in the
CDROM's place) the Win98 PC simply doesn't have an E drive.

Any suggestions on how to make the E drive (the temp extra HD) appear
so I can copy the files off it?

Thanks in advance....

Sounds like it is formatted as an NTFS, which 98 does not recognize. The
older windows use FAT32 formatting.

You need a program such as readNTFS which allows Fat32 partitions to read
NTFS partitions.

Are you sure?
Try an F8 bootup/Safemode or an F8 bootup/Last known good config?
