We Live For The One We Die For The One

I have a Segate Barracudda IV, as you know is 7200 rpm.

And from what i read a cool hard drive is a good safer one.

Ive got a few heat sinks, the latest is one from my old thermaltake,
Volcano 7, if i plonk that on my drive what should i expect ?

Will it just cool the Drive down and or the whole system ??

Or would it cool the drive down and heat up the system >?>?

You tell me.

Thanks.

Interesting...i can't answer this point, but any possibilty of electric
interference?

I think it can't do any real harm...place the heatsick on top with some
Artic Silver...no damage done really. It should in theory just cool the HDD.
Others would suggest you use the fans instead if the heatsink.

If you want though...i'll glady take the heatsinks off your hands.
:)

Nahh i'am keeping em, going to use em to keep myself busy.

Ill cobble together pcs, in the future just for somthing to do.

I want to get my old Cyrix 200 Pc up and runnign, ahhhh the good old
days, though with a thermaltake volcano 7 cooler, prob run at -45c :)

Time for some REAL overclocking.

Bye.

It may, but most of what I've heard about hard drives says that covering any of
the holes is a definite no-no. If you could mount a heat sink in a way that
wouldn't cover any holes, I can't see any reason why it would hurt.

I control heat by keeping my two hard drives well separated and having a fan at
the front of the bays.

Unless the top of the drive is made of thick aluminum, like the rest
of the drive body, heatsinks won't do any good attached to the top
because it's made of steel, which conducts heat roughly 10 times worse
than aluminum does, and the steel is not only very thin but is largely
thermally insulated from the aluminum drive body with a rubber gasket.
The best places for heatsinks are the sides, but smear either
silicone heatsink grease or silicone rubber on the heatsinks before
attaching them or they'll conduct only half as well. However, a fan
will probably be far more effective than any heatsinks, and any fan
should blow air over the electronics, which contain some chips that
run particularly hot because they move the motor and heads.
