Satori PhotoXL (1 Editor: Photo-Paint)

Now shareware - it will be removed from PL2003 and the PL2004

Icon Snatcher and IconShop have been moved to programming tools. I
remain unconvinced that this was a good idea. I would not even think
of looking under programming tools or elsewhere given that I had found
some icon management tools, including editors, here. At the very
least, these two programs need to be cross-referenced here.

Proposed category revision:
Move "Icon Resource Tool" here.

Proposed addition:

Icon Resource Tool

See Programming Resource Tool
http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/PL2004PROGRAMMING.htm#ResourceTool

Icon Snatcher (Freeware) OS: Win 9x/NT/ME/2000/XP
Extract and export embedded icons. (Verify very brief description??)

IconShop (Freeware) OS: Windows
Tools to manage icon libraries, including extract and export. (Verify
very brief description??)

Comments/support/brickbats on proposed category revision and addition?

AGREED most emphatically!

If there is cross-referencing, not so bad, but does seem odd to put it
in programming tools. The average person would first look in a
graphics cateogory, though an icon resource tool category would be
better (though can understand how one would need/want to keep list of
sub-categories down). But under the "programming" one??? Nope. Just
my view, of course.

Absolutely!

There are *three* programs on the nominations list that can extract
Icons (that I know of).

They are grouped here on the Programming page:

http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/PL2004PROGRAMMING.htm#ResourceTool

Resource Tool is probably not a good name for the subcategory. The names
should be fairly descriptive to make it easy to find things. Suggestions
are welcome.

Resource Hacker probably should be cross-referenced as well as Icon
Snatcher and IconShop if these three remain in programming tools.

I've never used Resource Hacker, but just from the description it has
a rather different purpose than the other two as well as different
features. Icon substitution is just one reason to use this program.
Someone who uses it (which may be you) will have to comment.

I also think Irfanview, etc., should be cross-referenced here as well.

My revised preference:

Create - Graphics: Icon Tool {located adjacent to Editor:
Icons}
Include - Icon Snatcher and IconShop
Xref - See Program: Resource Tool (Resource Hacker)
- See Viewer; Convert-Edit-Rename (Irfan View, SlowView,
XnView)

My revised xref only alternative

Xref all at "Graphics: Editor: Icon"
- See Program: Resource Tool (Icon Snatcher, IconShop, Resource
Hacker)
- See Viewer; Convert-Edit-Rename (Irfanview, SlowView, XnView)

Ummmm, "This thread is for review and comments related to programs on the
GRAPHICS page."?

I should have been more explicit, Susan.

When you discuss programs on the PROGRAMMING PAGE in the thread for
discussion of programs on the GRAPHICS PAGE - it would be a help. Your
post sure confused *me*.

Just remember I'm not too bright and proceed accordingly. ;)
