I have a new Pixma MP800 but I have a number of ink cartridges for my older
non working Canon S600. The cartridges have a different part number but they
appear to be interchangeable. Does anyone know if they can be used?

You should not use them. The ink formula is different for one thing and
the printhead is also different. The firmware and some of the driver
software will not work either.

You'll have to look in greater detail to see the differences, but there
are some physical differences between the bci-6 and the new cli-8s, not
the lease of which are the chips located at the clip bottom part of the
cartridge. So while I can't say for certain the bci-3e are different
enough to not fit, since bci-6s won't fit it's more than likely the
bci-3e won't fit either, not without modling the plastic in spots.
Assuming my memory is correct and the s600 takes the bci3e, we are
talking some color differences as well, between bci-6 and cli-8 the
magenta changed, and I think the cyan changed between bci-3e and bci-6.

1. CLI8s for keyed to prevent use of older cartridges
2 CLI8s are chipped.
3. Color has changed enough that you wouldn't want to use it anyway.

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.
