Pixel problems and audio 'sizzles' when importing video

Hi - and thanks for reading this.
I am running Windows XP SP2 and MM 2.1. I have just got a Canon MVX460 and
when I transfer the video into MM I am getting little pixel boxes flash up
on the screen every few seconds. It shows on the import and also on the
video when I play it back from MM - but it's fine on the camera. I also get
little 'sizzles' on the audio. The video itself looks fine in MM - apart
from the problems mentioned. It's not distorted or poor quality but I don't
know why I'm having the problems.
My machine is an Athlon AMD 2400+ with a gig of RAM.
I have already been advised not to use the C drive and to make sure that
nothing else is running, but the result is the same.
Thanks for any help.

Just wondering....when you transferred
the video to your computer did you use
USB or DV (IEEE1394)?

Hi John

I used a Firewire connection (IEEE1394)

Cheers.

Ok...I thought maybe transferring with USB
could have been the cause of your problem.

Nevermind....

Does it sound like dropped frames to you?
That's what I've been told it may be.

Andy.

I'm not sure but I think I would try downloading
the video again. And make sure your camera
batteries are fully charged or use the power
adapter.

It "could" be dropped frames as you suggested or it "could" be a bad IEEE
cable or card.
Have a look at this article about optimizing your computer for capture:
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/Tutorials/OptimiseMyPcForVideo.htm
Try the things Graham suggests here and then recapture.
If it's better voila!
If not try your cable on a friends computer or a computer at your local
computer store as well as trying
with another cable to try to determine if your cable is bad or maybe your
IEEE card.
Another thought. Is the tape your using a new one or has it been used
several times?

What your describeing is a malfuction on the CAMERA-side of things..or you
have a loose connection on the Firewire IEEE1394(push it in all the way)..but
I'm confused that your DV-Camcorder LCD-screen shows a clear picture..it
should not..it must be the Firewire IEEE1394.

You should NOT need to worry about the age of your DV-tape..as long as you
don't use the Fast Forward Button..especially as a SEARCH-mode(never SEARCH
in FF)when the Camera is in the PLAY-viewing MODE..DV-tape can't take the
stress.

Hi all

Thanks for your views and advice.
I have downloaded WinDV, which is a very small capture program - to try and
rule out the PC. When I play the video - without trying to capture it - it
displays fine in WinDV. This led me to think that fault lay in the
cable/card rather than the PC. And you're right. It was a faulty socket on
my FireWire card!! All sorted now.

Thanks again.
Andy.

ummm unless it has been reused again and again
