Contact the creator of the PPS file and ask them to email you the image
file.

Once a picture has been inserted into a PPT file the image is "flattened" to
the slide and can not be extracted to the original image. It is only
available by using a screen capture program (or the PrintScreen and Paste
option) to make a low resolution version of the image. Any extraneous image
from the capture would have to be removed using an image editing program.

This didn"t work for me but thank you...

Open PowerPoint, then choose File | Open and navigate to the PPS and open
it. It will open in normal editing view.

Right-click the picture and choose Save As Picture.

If you select the picture using a left-click, then right-click it, do you
get a Save as Picture option then?

Can you select the actual picture? (The original author may have embedded it
as a slide background or something, in which case you wouldn't be able to
select the picture on the slide at all.)

Open the presentation as Echo suggested, then save the presentation as an
HTML file and PowerPoint will put all the pictures into a folder for you.
