Pivot Tables

I can't seem to get the pivot table option to work in my
access 2002. I have the wizard installed, however, after
going through the wizard, i dont get the same pivot table
functionality as what i can do in excel. Just a few of
the fields in the underlying table are available and even
then, i cant drag and drop them in the typical pivot
table format. they all just go in the "data" field". ex.
One of my columns has date info. I cant group these into
weeks or months. I am missing something here?

I also just moved the whole table to excel and tried to
create the pivot table there. I needed to do 2 crucial
things - group the date field into weeks and then create
2 new calculated fields. somehow, i cant perform the 2
functions together. having the calculated fiels does not
allow me to group the date field. Having the dates
grouped does not allow me to have the calculated fields.
what to do!?
