Is there a way to "save" the color scheme that I want
without Excel reverting to the "default" color of the
chart when I do a change in it?
I'm using Office 2000.

This is a known problem in Excel 2000. There's some info in the
following MSKB article, which suggests recording a macro as you apply
the formatting:
