Pivot Table Sorting Months

I have two issues:
After creating a pivot table that summarises data based on date ranges that
span more than a year, the totals for a common month of each year (say Jan
03 and Jan 04 are aggregated ?? Can a pivot table display the months
individually?

After creating a pivot table that summarises data based on date ranges that
span year's end, the sort order by month puts say January 04 at the top
rather than at the bottom - after Dec 03.

Am I missing something here?

Any assistance gratefully appreciated.
