Pivot table question

Is it possible to vary the field settings by column in a pivot table? For
example, can I use Summarize by "Sum" for some columns and Summarize by
"Average" in others? I'm using Excel 2003

Yes.

Just right-click each field, select Field Settings, and set your preference.
