Pirated Windows XP Pro.

I'll try to make this short...
Took my computer in to get hard drive replaced. The guy (without asking)
uninstalled my Genuine Version of Windows XP Home and replaced it with the
"FAKE" XP PRO along with a couple of other things he replaced (cause he
thought his stuff was better) Now then, my question.....

How do remove XP PRO and put my version back on?? Tried to reinstall mine
and I get this message:

-- Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is
newer than the version on the CD.
Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is
currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be
recovered.

Need someone to point me in the right direction so I can keep.......

First backup any data you need to keep to cd or dvd...


Then just bootup with your "real" XP cd and allow it to format the drive and
start over...
you'll have to re-activate and re-update etc
 
I've been trying to do that. I must be doing something wrong. Do I boot up
during safemode? or put cd in at 1st before logon screen? I'm missing
something here.

You need to set your machine to boot from the CD at start-up - that is as
you switch it on. Consult your user manual on how to do that....

Change the BIOS so that it boots off the CD drive.

Answered in another newsgroup. Please do not send the same message
separately to more than one newsgroup (called multiposting). Doing so just
fragments the thread, so someone who answers in one newsgroup doesn't get to
see answers from others in another newsgroup. And for those who read all the
newsgroups the message is multiposted to, they see the message multiple
times instead of once (they would see it only once if you correctly
crossposted instead). This wastes everyone's time, and gets you poorer help
than you should get.

If you must send the same message to more than one newsgroup, please do so
by crossposting (but only to a *few* related newsgroups).

I'm afraid that the only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home
is to format the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade
path or technique.

After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS
installation,, simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll
be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order
of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Then the backed up data can be restored and applications re-installed.
