I purchased a copy of Windows XP Professional via and
online provider. The CD does not look quite right and is
giving me fits trying to install it.
I have looked all over the Microsoft site and cannot find
a way to tell if my product is original or if it is a
piracy product. Is there any way to easily tell if the
product is genuine or not?
It looks like Microsoft would make it easy to tell if you
have a genuine copy or not. If I could verify that this
is a fake I would report it in a minute and turn the site
in that I bought it from.
I would just like there to be a page where you can type
in your product key and shazam it tells you if your
product is real or fake.

Is its surface an all-over silvery hologram, with the Microsoft Flag in
a stamp size color holo under bright light, and icons 'clipart style'
in the top half, and "Microsoft genuine" repeated all over the bottom
half? If not, it is a fake: If they are there it is either genuine or
an *excellent* and expensively made copy
