I need help changing my setting from PIO to DMA. On my
primary IDE the setting is DMA if available. However, it
is currently running as PIO. How do I change it so that
it runs as DMA? Thanks for your help. Tom

hello tom, most often the motherboard BIOS will have an
option to fix your problem, if not, then quite possibly
your device(s) don't have the capability. If either of
these don't help then your Windows is screwed

I had the same problem and what I did is uninstall the
primary IDT, restart the PC and let Windows re-install it.
When Windows XP restart it will show new hardware found
and should be set to DMA if your hardware support DMA. In
my case my hard drive was set to PIO and by doing the
above it got set to DMA.

Read this article; http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/tech/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx problematic devices will cause XP to reset the transfer rate.
