Can anybody think of reasons why a computer could ping
anyone on a WAN but nobody could ping that computer? This
question evolved from a problem with someone getting
hardlocked or dropped from Netmeetings.
Thanks

I always did like trivia! If you cannot ping a computer, then something is
not responding to or filtering out the ICMP requests. Possibilities are,
firewalls (personal or network) anywhere in between, IDS, IPSec (but not if
NAT is anywhere in between), the computer may be on a slow link which would
require modifying the timeout for responses, and soon, XP SP2 will block
ICMP by default.
