Hello,
I have a laptop and PC wired to an adsl modem/router/switch/firewall. Both can access the Internet and both can send email, only the laptop receives, but that's no problem. Both ping the router and the laptop pings the PC. But the PC won't ping the laptop.
The laptop has xp with SP2 with windows firewall switched off. The laptop has xp with SP1 and no firewall appears. They both have Mcafee firewall.
Can anyone help please?
Regards,

McAfee firewall might be stopping it, but if both the laptop and PC work ok I wouldn't worry about it - or does it cause other problems (like Windows Networking not working?).

Turn off Macrapee firewall ... pop along to Steve Gibson's site and see how you do on an All Port Scan ... your Router should be NAT enabled, if not, then you'll need to configure Macrapee to allow the PC to "see" each other.

Thanks both,
The only problem is that the pc cannot see a printer connected to the laptop.

Sorry, forgot, did some more on this after opening the new thread. Pinged by Ip addresses as mentioned, assigned by DHCP. Net view using Ip addresses and computer names worked both ways. I agree re McAfee - have had some problems.

Have disabled McAfee firewall on laptop - pc pings it.

nice site there

just ran some tests

Hello,
Tried Steve Gibson test with McAfee disabled and then enabled. Failed on both (stealth) - too complicated for me. Can I check that my router has an effective firewall so I can leave McAfee off. The instructions say it has a firewall 'to protect the Internet'.
Thanks,

Also says 'you also need a software firewall'

Have configured McAfee firewall to allow PC Ip address - now pings with firewall enabled.
Thanks,
