arg!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone, sure hope someone can help me out.

Two systems (his and hers) hooked up via ether cards (10/100 PCI). The
wife's PC is the host via Cable modem and I'm the client. Both puters
running winxp home edition. Setup is OK and every thing worked well
for quite some time however my system has been acting up lately.

symptoms are...

Periodically while the host is able to surf the net, the client has no
access to the net (other times it's fine).

Periodically, client access to the net is extremely slow (other times
it's fine)

In the middle of copying a large file from the host to the client (hd
to hd), the following error occurs... Cannot copy: The specified
network name is no longer available. (arg!!!!)

When the client pings the host (ping -t host), random "request timed
out" occurs during the process.

Any ideas? So desperately at your mercy !!

Sounds like one of the following problems:

a bad network card
a bad network cable
a bad hub/switch

Thanks for the response Marc. Another question if I may. Does it
matter what network card I exchange mine with as per the host's
network card? Should both puters have the same "cards"? Do both
"cards" have to be compatible with each other?

TIA,
