Awhile ago, you had mentioned being a happy user of Softhome as a free
email account.

I've been using it, and email expires too fast. (webmail)

If I see a message in Inbox, and open it, exit and return, it is gone
within minutes.

Mail in the Sent folder disappears within days. In preferences, the most
I can set is 3 days delay. I only have 4-5 small messages, not anything
near their limit.

I created my own Draft folder, put some mail in it, waiting to see.

Have you noticed this?

Mike, try this one.
http://mail.adnmail.com/adn/login/login.asp
No spam, no "Critcal Updates" and I've had stuff in my box for at least
30 days. Just a suggestion.

Mike, I have a Softhome account; I have my Fastmail account set up to go get
stuff, so I never really check into it that much. For a much better one and
one that really keeps the spam away (at least for me) try thetruth.com
email. It's free, pretty spam free and you need to check it only every 90
days or so. I've had mail there since I started over a year ago. Caution,
they use Flash technology on their site. ;)

Further, check your preferences:
Automatically purge deleted messages after days.
(Set zero to disable autopurge.)

Thanks, Andy. That "0" was the default, it definitely did not disable
purge. The Softhome site says they purge, but vague on when.

I don't use Flash, so "the Truth" may not work for me.

Thanks, dszady. I signed on with adn before, but found I can't copy an
entire email, I have to copy the header, separately copy the message. I
see the email normally, but have the copy problem. Otherwise, it seemed
fine.

OK...do what I did; I installed flash but in using Firefox/Firebird/Mozilla
you can 'disable' flash, I think it's called Flash on demand or something
like that. I rarely use flash and for thetruth email I never use it. Once
you set up the account (actually once you get to the email link) you can
disable flash or unisntall or whatever.
Not very clear, but what I'm trying to say is once you have your email addr
established, flash is no longer necessary....enjoy

Maybe an obvious question:
A month ago, I signed up with adnmail, sent myself one test message.
Now, I signed in, go to Inbox, see **no way** to compose a new mail.

When you want to compose, how to do it?

Good question. After you sign in it's on the Welcome screen in the left
panel. Has a colorful Composition screen.

I had a question about another subject that you had asked in the group
Mike and I was wondering if you had received an answer yet?

Turns out in Netscape or Firebird, I don't see anything there, but by
moving the cursor, I got compose.

??? - search under ms, see if you can find it. I'm still looking for a
small zipper.

I think it was about in what order do you install Win98 updates after
d/ling all of them on disk.
I installed them yesterday even though I didn't want to do it. Four
floppies I numbered 1 through 4 as they came from the Micro$oft site. I
just put them in 1 through 4. I expect the screen to explode any time
now.
Did you ever get an answer?

Now I remember, several months ago, there was a thread, IIRC, not my
question. This was when W98 updates were "going away".
Then, I d/l about 15 I felt might be useful, and saved them.

I installed none of them. I've run for at least 5 years in W98SE and
never have the problems I keep hearing about on the net. Maybe one
reason is I use old Netscape, only MS program is W98SE and IE 5.01SP2.
And the few times I use IE, everything is disabled, so no problems.

If you installed all of them and no problems, from what I hear you're
lucky!

BTW, re: Adnmail- To see the web pages to work with, I had to enable
Java script, style sheets, and cookies. Too much, as I browse with all
that disabled.

I'm back to Softhome, easy interface, just that the mail expires soon.
