Hi.
I'm glad the registry routine(s) worked for you.
As to shortcut arrows on desktop url shortcuts, I don't know at present.
I'll research the issue and get back to you.

If your email address is valid, I can reply directly if you wish.
Failing that, I'll post in the group when (if) I find an answer. :)

Hello again.

Regarding desktop URL shortcuts and arrows...

I've done the research and come up with this lot.
It's a bit long so I've divided it into sections.

1. Overview.
The system I tried it on is Win98SE/IE6 with all MS updates applied.
The version of SHELL32.DLL on this system is 4.72.3812.600
(1388816 bytes of 06/12/2001).
TweakUI is installed.

This system had the same issue as yours, i.e. the "normal" shortcut arrows
had been attended to, but those on desktop url's remained.

2. Fix.
I applied the following registry modifications which cured the problem.

Copy the data between the ==Cut Here== markers and paste into notepad.
Save as whatulike.reg

==Cut Here=
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\piffile]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Icons]
"29"="C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\TWEAKUI.CPL,3"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{63B51F81-C868-11D0-999C-00C04FD655E1}\InProcServer
32]
""=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{63B51F81-C868-11D0-999C-00C04FD655E1}\InProcServer
32]
"ThreadingModel"="Both"
==Cut Here==

Merge the resulting reg file into the registry.

3. Notes.
a). After applying the patch, a previously saved url on my desktop still
showed the arrow.
Refreshing the desktop didn't cure it. A reboot did.
b). When I next launched Internet Explorer, it informed me that it was not
the default
browser and offered to make it so (don't know why). No other problems.
c). I saved another url to the desktop and it appeared without the arrow.
d). Reference url where I found the information follows...
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/75/
e). You may wish to back up your registry before applying the modifications.

I hope this solves your problems.

Hello Again,

Thank you very much for all the work involved. It is greatly
appreciated. it's a lot just to get reid of those arrows but for some reason
they realy bug the heck out of me. I was almost tempted to low format the
drive and reinstall the os and everything (Without the Updates). I haven't
tried the prosedure on the url link icons but will when I get a little more
awake. The email addy change .org to .com It still may not work it's on my
own serve and untill I get more on the server I haven't been leaving it up
24/7

Thanks Again
