yo yo!

well...I am the one you helped configure a 3 pc 5 nic network.
you're idea was a smash!!! it worked really well until something
flubbed up in my #1 pc...as a result I could only have 1 nic in that
machine

it's real simple now...

i have 3 nics in win2000 pc
ICS is enabled on win2000

this only lets one other computer on the internet.

my setup looks like a stethiscope...or a Y

the bottom of the Y is win2000

ics lets one branch of the Y on the net, but not the other...
you think this is possible to have the 3rd joined in?

Sorry, I guess I won't be expecting an instant transfer! That won't work.
ICS only allows 1 public and 1 private Interface. IF you had server you
_might_ be able to do it with NAT, but I don't really know if server will
even allow multiple private interfaces (I've never tried it). If you can't
afford the $30.00 for a SOHO router, I'd see about repairing the install and
get two NICs back into the other computer.

oh well, that's alright...two pcs on the net is enough...I am able to
networkneighborhood onto the 3rd

i find it all very interesting

one thing I lack is a basic understanding of gateways, dns, dhcp, and
subnets..etc..

the problem...there's so many more protocols...(i guess)...
i don't know where to start to learn the barebone basics

thing is..im a pretty creative person...I think if I understood the
basics and maybe a tad more..i could get creative and find a
solution...just for the challenge of it.

There are lots of tutorials out there for the basics of TCP/IP. You might
think about picking up a book (current) geared toward the network+ exam.
IPV4 subnetting isn't difficult and will continue to be the protocol of the
Internet for some time to come. Or if you really want to sink your teeth
into it, go for a CCNA course. You can do all of the hands-on with sims now,
so you can pretty much do it at home.
