John, were you ever able to create bootable partitions with Ranish,
XOSL, xxcopy, and Win ME?

I'm experimenting with this program that restores the basic DOS
functionality to ME:

It looks really good. Enough so that I destroyed my first install to
play around with the above utilities to see if I can get bootable
partitions going and have a hidden copy to use in the future.

I'm still in the ranish mode now. I thought I'd see if you or anyone
else has successfully cloned a Win ME install.

Sorry, haven't needed to try.

I too have explored this, but I didn't like the tradeoffs (don't
remember what they were) so didn't do it.

Sorry REM, I *still* haven't gotten around to doing anything with
Linux. In fact, I'll probably simply use the SuSE included formatting
utility to do the job.

However, I have two hard drives and both of them are bootable. I did
this by simply moving the cable from the old one to the new one, then
fdisking and formating the new one and installing the OS from scratch.
Then I did a scratch install of the OS on the new one and copied data
and other files from the old one. Finally, I cloned the new one to the
old one. The old one never lost its MBR so it's still bootable too.
