Hello,

I have W2K SP4 with RRAS. I have two w98 machines that these two machines
connect with my server.

The W98 machine A connect to my server, the server gives the IP,
192.162.0.101, and then I execute from then console server the next command:

ping 192.168.0.101 -t

this command is working well and the reply is OK. The connection works fine.

When the W98 Machine B connect with my server, the server gives the
192.168.0.102 Ip address but then the ping 192.168.0.101 fails, and the
Machine A connection fails. I see in my RRAS console and I see that the
machine A is connect and the machine B is conected too, but I can not do a
ping then.

The machine A can disconnet to RRAS, but I can not do a ping to any machine
to Remote LAN (192.168.0.x).

I have done the following test, first connect the machine B and I do from
console server a ping -t to machine B and the reply is OK, and when the
machine A try to connect the the ping to machine B fails, and Machine A and
B is connected again in the RRAS Server.

Do you have any idea why the connection fails?
Do I need to reinstall W98?
Do I need to reintall the last Service Pack?

Best regards, Julio.

I don't think that this is a problem at the server.

Are the client machines behind a router? Some SOHO routers will only
allow one VPN connection to be made through them. The don't give any
diagnostics and behave in strange ways. Some just won't allow the second
connection, some allow it but you then lose the first one and so on.

Bill, thanks for response, these W98 machines are behind Alcatel ADSL router
on ISDN. This router is model DSL18623T2AA. (Firmware 3.7.1.6).

I think that th problem is the router, but ISP says me that these w98 can
navegate by Internet (HTTP, FTP, MAIl etc) and the router is OK.
The ISP do not change the router and I think that one solution is try to
update W98 to W2K or XP, and try to test.

Another idea is try to connect with other vpn client.
¿Do you know if exists other vpn client to try to connect with my RRAS
Server using PPTP different that Windows use (cisco or another)?

Best regards, Julio Ríos.

I don't think changing the VPN client would make any difference. If the
router can only handle one PPTP connection, then that's it!

The onlt alternative is some sort of connection sharing (like ICS or
NAT), where one machine makes the VPN connection through the router and the
other machines share this connection. Or some sort of routed LAN-to-LAN VPN
solution.
