My Network Setup:
Two Computers sharing a broadband internet connection via a router. One
running 98 and the other XP.

Problem:
Internet access works perfectly. The problem is file and printer sharing
between the two computers. XP machine can ping 98. But not vice-versa. As a
result, I'm not able to share a printer.

** Please note that the XP machine has ICF and ZoneAlarm turned OFF. **

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,
Ramesh

One-way pings are almost certainly caused by a firewall program.

Don't just turn ZoneAlarm off. Un-install it using the procedure
provided by the manufacturer. Then, go to Start | Run | Msconfig |
Startup and disable any remnants of ZoneAlarm. Then, reboot and try
the ping again.

Dear Steve,

This is the step I recommended to my customer and thx a lot for your advice
too.

Now, I have another problem with ICS. This is a different scenario.

1. Internet Connection Sharing Host is XP
2. Client is 98 computer
3. Using crossover cable

Problem: ICS basically works fine. AOL, Yahoo messengers work great. The
problem is while browsing sites using IE. Only some sites work.
(mail.yahoo.com) not working.

*Just checking for any answer in your site*

This is a common problem with DSL connections that use PPP Over
Ethernet (PPPoE). Here are some possible fixes. Any one of them
should solve the problem:

1. Install Windows XP Service Pack 1 on the ICS host computer.

2. Find the right MTU setting on the client computers, as shown here:

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article04-107

and then make the setting manually on the client computers, or use
DrTCP to make it:

http://www.dslreports.com/front/drtcp.html

3. Download the free RASPPPoE program and install it on the host
computer. Use it instead of XP's PPPoE program. Details at these
sites:

Hi Steve,

I have dial-up connection and using ICS :)
I will try the MTU settings for dial-up, however. Just thought i can give
the above info. Pls let me know if you have further ideas.

BTW, I plan to re-run network setup wizard again. And this thing was working
great before. :)

Unfortunately, it did not work. Tried all possible mtu settings from
speedguide.net

Only certain sites are not working.
