about 8 or so of our servers here running gig ethernet to a cisco 2970 gig
switch. The systems seem to just drop off for no reason. Start a -t ping to
one of them...and it may miss 20 or so and then pick up and stay up until you
stop the ping and wait a while and start to ping again and it fails. Have
updated all drivers (intel cards), win2k sp1, have checked that its not set
to shutoff to save power. This is a terrible problem if anyone has any
experience with this I need some help desperately.

If it's happening on all of the servers (or even a few of them), there's a
big chance that the problem is with the switch.
The first thing you'll probably want to do is turn auto-negotiation off (on
the switch and on the eth cards.) This will get rid of the chance that the
drops are due to the devices trying to re-negotiate.
Then I'd see if there is a firmware update available for the switch. I had
a similar problem at one of my remote offices (using a Dell switch), and an
quick firmware update resolved the problem.
If the problem still persists, could you check the event log for errors?
That would really help us get a better idea of what is going on.

Good Luck,
Dan
