ping command failure

I can't seem to get a network up and running with Dlink
and their support hasn't been helpful. one of the
problems I'm having (and may be a symptom of the root of
the problem) is that after hooking everything up and
attempting to do a ping test, I get an error message that
says it is "not a recognized internal or external
command, operable program or batch file". This error
message also appears when I type ipconfig on the command
line. Dlink says my system is corrupted (it's only 2
weeks old) and offered no solution. I see
several "Events" related to TCP/IP in the events viewer
but how do I find which event may have corrupted windows
xp and how do I fix it? I don't want to have to go back
to original configuration and reload all my programs
again!!
Thanks for any and all advice!

Sounds like your path statement is incorrect. Go to a command prompt.
Change directory to c:\windows\system32, and then try the ping command
from there. If it works then, you need to alter your path statement to
look in the system32 directory.

You're welcome.

Thanks a million Phil! That did the trick! Can't wait to
call Dlink back and tell them (nicely?) that they were
incorrect in assuming my OS was corrupted and hopefully
they will be able to get my network up and running. I
feel like Im missing something simple......
Anyway, if they're unable to help (the 2 computers aren't
seeing each other and computer #2 can't obtain internet
access), I'll be back for some real help from this board!
Thanks again!
