Dell 4550 w/1 gig ram, winxp home. Upgraded from 60 gig to 120 gig hd.
Many adventures met & solved, but one. Search function freezes system.
Have no rollback point, and cd doesn't repair problem. Any of you MS
experts have an idea what I could try next? TIA
Don

1. Open Computer Management (Local).
2. In the console tree, double-click Services and Applications.
3. Right-click on Indexing Service and select "Stop".

Carey, thank you so very much for your quick response. When I right click
on Indexing Service, again the system freezes, and sometimes I get a
"program not responding" dialogue box. Will I get the same results if I
click My computer*Right click HD*properties*General*and uncheck"allow
indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching"?

1. Go to Start > Run and type: SERVICES.MSC , and hit enter.
2. Scroll down to "Indexing Service".
3. Right-click on this service and select "Stop"
