Is it possible that PIF attachments are being added to my
emails sent through Outlook without me knowing?

Yes - if you have a virus. Do a scan with an up to date anti virus program
NOW.

Perform the following an eliminate the possibility that an infector is sending out PIF files
from your PC.

1) Download the following two items...

Trend Sysclean Package
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

Latest Trend signature files.
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp

Create a directory.
On drive "C:\"
(e.g., "c:\New Folder")
or the desktop
(e.g., "C:\Documents and Settings\lipman\Desktop\New Folder")

Download sysclean.com and place it in that directory.
Dowload the signature files (pattern files) by obtaining the ZIP file.
For example; lpt192.zip

Extract the contents of the ZIP file and place the contents in the same directory as
sysclean.com.

2) If you are using WinME or WinXP, disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
3) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode
4) Using the Trend Sysclean utility, perform a Full Scan of your platform and
clean/delete any infectors found
5) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform
6) If you are using WinME or WinXP,Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any
System Restore preferences, (e.g. HD space to use suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
7) Reboot your PC.
8) If you are using WinME or WinXP, create a new Restore point
9) Please report back your results

Having read your message I tried running this program as well and it works.
It found a Trojan that Spybot, Adaware 6.0 and panda packages all miss.
However I keep getting pop ups from a German falkag.de site which the MSN Pop
Up Blocker and none of the packages mentioned above clear. This pop up comes
when I try to browse from MSN.uk. Is this linked ?

Adaware SE supercedes Adaware v6.0

I don't have an explanation of the Pop-Up

Ran the program as u suggested - it found nothing which surprised me. I have
been hearing tales from other people of Internet Explorer being attacked by
pop ups when you try to browse and which SP2 does not stop - could this be
related to my problem with PIF's or are the messages I am getting spoofs ?

Any comments from anyone appreciated!
