My laptop was recently stolen and I want to include the PID on the police
report. I have the disc used when I loaded the CD. Where would I find this
Embeded on the CD.

The Product Key is on the folder contained in the XP box.
IF you still have the folder and the PK, contact MS and tell them that
XP was on the stolen laptop.
The police wouldn't know what to do with the PK. The serial number and
model of the laptop is all they'll need.

The Windows 25-character Product Key (required to perform the
installation) is not stored on the installation CD in any way, shape, or
form. If it's a retail license, the Product Key is stored on the CD
packaging on a bright orange sticker that says "Do not lose this
number." If it was an OEM (factory installed) license, it's stored on a
label that the PC manufacturer affixed to the exterior of the PC case,
or on the bottom of a laptop.

This is not the information I am looking for.

When you go to MYCOMUTER and right click, open properties, under general tab
you will see System, Registered To, and Computer. Under Registered to it will
show the persons name and the PID # which is imbeded on the original CD. I
ordered these computers from Dell with no operating system and installed
myself. CD's were purchased seperately and I own. I also have the product key
for activation.

It isn't embedded on the original CD, the PID that you see on the System
Properties page is a hash that was created from the numbers that were
entered when Windows was installed.

John John: Does this mean the hash cannot be found on the CD? Or is there a
different hash generated each time windows is installed.

There is no hash or PIDs or license number of any kind on the CD, other
than versions like Retail/OEM or Pro/Home or Service Pack level all the
Windows CD are the same, none of them have any embedded license
information. For the different license numbers to be on each cd all the
cds would have to be unique, each one would be slightly different from
the other. This would be an unworkable scenario for mass distribution,
imagine having to create 100 million cds and no two of them alike! For
such large distributions the cds are not burned, they're pressed from a
master, a special die is made and from that die millions of identical
copies are made. Sticking a paper or printing a different license
number on the box is no big deal, the unique numbers are printed on the
cd box by high speed printers and the cds fly off the assembly line!
When you install Windows you key in the unique number than came with the
cd and some kind of tool does a hash of the numbers to determine if
they're valid and if they are the tool creates the different set of
numbers that you see on the System Properties page. Don't ask me which
tool does this or how exactly its done, but in a nutshell that is how it
works... or something like that.
