When I try to open a picture I get a message that "Windows cannot
find....(....the file and to type the name of the file in correctly, etc.).
This just happened and I have no idea how to fix it. Please, help....and
thank you.

Maybe you have a problem with your
image associations:

Have a look at this article:

(307859) HOW TO: Change File Associations
in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307859

More info:

Try this...open an image folder and right click one
of your image files...from the menu, select...Open
With / Choose Program.

Make your choice from the list or Browse to the
correct program if it is not in the list.

If you want the default...choose..."Windows
Picture and Fax viewer"

Once you make your selection...be sure to check
the box that says: "Always use the selected program
to open this kind of file". (you will need to do this
for each format....jpg, .tif, .gif...etc.)

Also...you can right click an image and choose
Properties / Change Button...choose the program
you wish to use and click...OK / Apply / OK.

Also...in WinXP, you can go to...My Computer /
Tools / Folder Options / File Types tab...

Thank you, John. I have been working with photos for a while now and have
never encountered this problem before. My photos are all jpegs and I have
been restoring photos (from the 1860's )using Paint and FotoCanvas 3.0 from
ACDSee on the computer . Yesterday, after I downloaded some digital photos
from my camera, everything seemed to go 'kaput', if you know what I mean! I
had been having no problems an hour earlier. Thought I had a series of
"senior moments" but the problem is still here. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled FotoCanvas but I am getting the same message on all my pictures.
Can you suggest anything else? I am looking through the sites you mentioned.

Are you able to open the image files in Windows
Picture and Fax Viewer? Is it possible that the
files were accidentally deleted? Check your
Recycle Bin.

I guess it's possible that you may have a virus.
Have you done a full system scan using the
most recent definitions?

Yes, I can open files in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. My antivirus program
is fully up to date and I have done a system scan. I have, just in the last
half-hour been able to open pictures with ACDSee after uninstalling and
reinstalling the program. I ran my Windows Registry Repair Pro again before
that. I do thank you very much for your suggestions.

does anyone know of a way i can get these pictures off my camera to my
computer?

Does the computer really need a driver to copy the pictures to the computer?
I have another Samsung Digimax. I just connect the camera to the computer
with an usb-cable. Then open work station. There a new folder pops up at the
work station. Double click and the new folder opens so I can copy the
pictures into my own album. I never ever needed a driver. The same camera I
can connect to my dads computer by usb-cable and it even works without.

Greetings
Helga
