pictures on web pages

When I ask this you will know that I know very little
about computers. When I open some web pages the pictures
will not open. There will be a little X in the upper left
hand corner. I have srt all my setting for security and
privicy as low as the will go, it did not help. I have
earthlink and I called them and they said it was a
browser problem. I checked my windows upgrades and there
wasn't any that I needed. I am running windows xp
professional. Can anyone help me? Thanks

Does this happen for any web page or just certain ones?
It's possible that the web page you're looking at has some
settings or bad links that are keeping the pictures from
being displayed. It also depends on what types of
pictures/graphics they are. Your browser may not be set-
up to view them. Earthlink should be able to help you to
change your settings or make sure that you have them set-
up right.

There are many possible causes and solutions.
Try the quick, easy fix first. Clear the IE cache from IE> Tools> Internet
Options> General> Delete files and Delete offline content. Reset the TIF
folder size to about 50MB (Settings button) and clear it occasionally.

Are you using a Firewall or "filtering software"?

Several of these are known to cause problems:
1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]
Reset "Ad Blocking" and "Cookie Control" to "medium"
"Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS)[Enable Browser Privacy - enabled]
Active Content - "Allow All Script To Execute"
Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit encryption
Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referrer"
or contains entries that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
