Mike

It's the strangest thing, I use to be able receive emails in my Outlook 2003
with pictures embedded in the body of the email (not as attachments) OR as
attachments. For some reason, now when I receive an email with a picture
embedded in the email, even from internal coworkers, I get the picture
placeholder (the little "X").

There is no option to download pictures - the infobar does not appear at the
top.

Even stranger, if I switch my email format to Word, and then try to forward
or reply to the email with the missing pictures, the picture appears in the
forwarded/replied message since it's in Word format. If I close out of the
forward/reply email, and then open the original email in Outlook, the picture
does not show....

Our IT guys can't figure this out.

Hi Mike,
A coworker was having a similar problem so I researched it a bit myself and
came across your post in the process. I also came across someone's answer and
it worked. I wish I had saved that person's info so I could credit them. :
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is how you'll fix the problem.

1-Locate the Outlook Temporary Items folder by opening the Registry and
locating
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security\OutlookSecureTempFolder
Navigate to the value of this Key. It should be something like:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK3D\ where OLK3D is
some randomly generated string that always starts with OLK
2-Quit Outlook
3-Delete the contents of the folder
4-Launch Outlook

One note: you may not be able to navigate to this folder with your mouse. I
was unable to see the OLK folder on my machine and instead copied the path
from RegEdit into my explorer navigation (pasting into start->run would have
also done the trick). Manually opening up the folder allowed me to delete the
files and solve the problem as well.

Hi Mike,
A coworker was having this same issue. I came across your post while I was
searching for a solution. The solution I am going to cut and paste below my
message worked for me. I wish I had tracked the submitter as I would have
liked
to give them credit. Oh well.

Sorry for the duplicate posts. The system claimed to have errored out on the
first try. Sheesh! :(

Moira's correct, you have to clear out the Outlook temporary internet
files folder. There's a trick to circumvent the whole registry edit
thing though.

1. Open any e-mail with a Microsoft Office attachment such as Excel,
then open the attachment.
2. When the Excel file opens, in Excel, click File > Open.
3. It should open the Outlook temporary internet file folder, titled
something like OLK55.
4. Change the Files Of Type drop-down menu to read All Files.
5. Delete all of the files inside that window.
6. Close the Excel file, close Outlook, re-open Outlook.

Hi i have tried the solution above and i want to corect it,
it should be:

Pictures Not Showing in Received Emails in Outlook 2003 - (i have cheked it, it is working)

1. Open any e-mail with a Microsoft Office attachment such as Excel, then open the attachment.
2. When the Excel file opens, in Excel, click File > save as
3. It should open the Outlook temporary internet file folder, titled something like OLK?? - copy / remember the olk?? number.
4. close any office program
5. open drive C:\Documents and Settings\UID\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\olk?? - ?=the number that you have.
6. create directory "old" - transfer all of the files inside that folder to "old" folder
7. open Outlook and check.

Rather than this, simply delete the contents on the folder.
