Pictures just show as a red cross in top left-hand corner!

Hi,

I've just rebuilt my PC i'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 with IE6 SP2. However
any pictures that I come across on the internet are just displayed as a red
cross in the top left-hand corner.

Does anybody know of a fix for this problem.
