Pictures folder replicating

Ever heard of this? I have a new system loaded with Vista Home Premium. The
problem starts with the Picture folder not being accessable in its original
location, what happens now is that the c:\users\name\pictures\ folder looks
something like this.
c:\users\name\pictures\pictures\pictures\pictures\............ get the idea.
It runs into about 15 or so folders. I originally thought it could be a
virus, but the systems had been freshly installed and runs OK for a day,
after a few reboots this happens. I am still not convinced that its NOT a
virus problem, but have tried various sollutions. Scanned the net for any
info about this prob, but allas nothing.
Is there anybody out there that can assist me?
 
In the Registry Editor, go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

Highlight Shell Folders, in the left-hand pane, and, on the menu, choose
File, and then Export. Save the file as ShellFolders.reg. Close Registry
Editor, and then right-click on ShellFolders.reg and choose Edit. Copy All
the contents written in Notepad, and Paste them into your reply to this
post.

Also, in the Start Menu's Start Search box, type:

shell:my pictures

Press Enter. What is the path (address) of the folder that pop's up?

No, but I can predict the mechanism...
- app mixes %placeholder% and %placeholder%\Pictures refs
- app writes the latter back to the system

So; what extra software do you have installed that may have an
interest in Pictures?

Also; check registry shell folder refinitions to see something like...

Pictures = %Pictures%\Pictures

....as opposed to...

Pictures = %User%\Pictures

....or bytes to that (d)effect.

Yep, I did...

See if you can pin down repro, starting with...
- start Vista
- navigate to Pictures
- <do nothing>
- shutdown
- repeat; does path re-nest itself?

If Yes, then fall backwards to Safe Mode etc.

If No, then replace <do nothing> with various test cases, such as
"start my camera's software and close it", etc.
