Pictures are dark!

When I receive picture they r very dark. I know how to
copy the picture & lighten it but I am talking about how
they appear when they r received. I don't want to save
most of the pictures received, I just want to look
at 'em. This was especially apparent when I was selling a
home & was provided with pictures of the home on a web
site. I complained greatly that the pictures were tooo
dark to be seen. Then I lookd at 'em on someone else's
computer & they were fine.

Question: Is there a central control in my computer where
I can adjust how all incoming picture will look that I
receive?
 
Are pictures the only things that are dark? Perhaps your monitor's
brightness settings could be adjusted.

I agree with Matt that the monitor calibration may be off. May want to take
