Pictures Already Have Titles

The Cat's Meow

I want to make a movie using my pictures by using Movie Maker with Vista.

When I made the pictures, I gave them specific titles.

When I run them through Media Center the titles appear on the top of the
pictures.

When I imported them to Movie Maker and created a movie using AutoMovie and
played it back, the titles do not appear on the pictures.

I want them to appear.

I do not want to type in text for every picture. There are 300 hundred of
them and besides they already have the title on them.

Is there any way that I can get the titles to appear on the pictures using
Movie Maker?

If I understand your description...the
titles are just file names and are not
actually on the face of each image.

The following free software can add
the file names to a batch of image files.

FastStone Image Viewer
http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

"Basic steps to add text to image files
using Fast Stone Image Viewer"

Tools / Batch Convert / Batch Convert tab...

Check the box...Use advanced options...

Advanced Options button / Text tab /
Check the box...Use Text...

Open the drop window..."Insert a Variable"
choose...File Name (with or without extension)
....OK...

Add the files you wish to append...

Choose an Output Format...

Choose an Output folder...

Click the Start button...

Okay, I downloaded and installed and followed your directions. I had to make
one change. In Rename I had to select *_tn
The only problem is that after I created it, my slide name should up twice
and this caused the whole name to be cropped off. Also the word sample was
after my name of slide.
Do you know why sample is there?
How do I stop it from creating it with the title twice?

==============================
The word "Sample" is just an example of
a text entry. Delete it before entering your
command.

I have no idea why your file name shows
up twice...try clicking "Reset All" on the
Advanced Options / Text...window.

Remove "Sample" by dragging your
cursor across it to highlight it and press
your delete key.

Now...click the "Insert A Variable" button...
and select...File Name - Without Extension..

Also choose a Position and a Font size.

Click OK.

Add the files you wish to append...

Choose an Output Format...

Choose an Output folder...

Click the Start button...

These exact steps work for me...I hope
they work for you as well.

You may have to experiment with the
various settings as I had to in order to
achieve the exact result you require.

Okay, I fixed the double problem. I had to clear the sample text and then
when I inserted *_tn it place 1 in the text. The text came out beautiful.
Thank you very much for telling me about that software. It is amazing and
free too!
Thank you again.
You saved me a lot of work.

Okay. I made my DVD. which is created via Movie Maker, I changed the DVD
aspect ratio to 16.9 because my HDTV can broadcast in this size which fills
my 50" screen.

When I played it back on my tv using my DVD, which can also play in 16.9
format (changed the setting to play in 16.9), the slide show came out in 4.3
aspect ratio.

Also, when I played it back in Media Center, Movie Maker, and Roxio
Cineplayer, the pictures are in 4.3 aspect ratio.

My computer monitor is 24" wide screen, which has played many a movie in
16.9.

Did I miss something?
I no it changed because when I go back to it, the 16.9 box is checked off.

Any ideas?

The only thing I can do using my DVD or TV remote is change the picture to
FULL, ZOOM, etc. which distorts the picture. NORMAL shows up as 4.3.

I thought it would play back in full screen 16.9.

===============================
If the images appear stretched when displayed
as 16:9...apparently they were not cropped to
the correct aspect ratio before importing into
Movie Maker. BTW, FastStone...the editor I
previously recommended has an excellent crop
tool.

Maybe the following articles will offer some ideas:

=====================
Batch Cropping In
FastStone Image Viewer
=====================
Open FastStone and go to...

Tools / Batch Convert / check the box
'Use Advanced Options' / Advanced Options
button / Crop tab / check the box 'Use Crop' /
Aspect Ratio / 16:9 / OK...

Browse to the folder that contains the images
you wish to batch crop...

Add All button.

Choose a format and a Save Folder...

Click...Start button.

If batch cropping removes important objects
(peoples heads for example) you may have to
manually crop some of the images.

Okay, when I select Crop, I do not see Aspect Ratio 16:9 as per your reply
below:

'Use Crop' /
Aspect Ratio / 16:9 / OK...

Which pixels equal 16:9?

I still cannot get the pictures to resize to rectangular instead of square

If it's not there...add it.

On the Crop Board...click the
Define Paper Ratios button
(it has three dots on it).

Click the...Add...button.

Enter...16 - 9 - Ratio / OK.

I know now why I could not find it. I was trying to use crop while in
Batch/Convert mode. I was trying to change them all at the same time.
By following your directions I found it on an individual picture.
Thank you.

Okay, now I finally go it the way I want it and I am getting closer and
closer to a final movie, but I still have questions as to why my movie
appears as it does.

Okay I insert my DVD that I created in Windows Media.
I view it using either Cineplayer, Media Center, or my TV.

When the movie first appears on the screen, you see the words: Play
and Scenes.
The scenes automatically appear in 16:9 format and fill the screen.
It stays this way until I press Play.

As soon as I select Play, the pictures stay in 16.9 format, but do not fill
the screen. They shrink down.
Why is this happening?
What is the difference between scenes and play?

Now I am confused?

Sounds like the images are low resolution.
What are the dimensions (pixel size) of the
cropped images?

Maybe your DVD player has a zoom feature?

The zoom is no good, it stretches the picture and it looks squatty.

The pixels on the pictures vary. Here are some of them:

899 X 506 900 x 506 901 x 507

If I can view them as full screen, then I think I am going to view them in
4.3. This will be their true size, because cropping them to 16:9 is really
not what my picture originally looked like. I lose the bottom and top. The
lost too much of my Rocky Mountains in my pictures. The whole bottom of the
road is gone.

Unless you can come up with something, I will probably use 4.3 and forget
about filling the screen. I can just think of it as watching a TV show that
is not HD.

Thanks for all your help.

If cropping is causing you to miss important
parts of your pictures...maybe 4:3 is your best
bet.
