I am trying to add a picture to the home page, but all I get is a red X.

The picture was sent to me as a PDF. I added some text and converted it to
a jpeg via photoshop. I imported the pic to the site. Then added it to the
page. I tried to add it using a layer as well as just placing it on the
screen. Same results. I've got dozens of pictures on the site that I've not
had problems with... all added using layers/

I seem to be having lots of problems since I went to a new PC with Vista. I
can't see where that should be a problems tho, as the rest of the site was
built on this OS.

Any suggestions?

Suggest you take the image back to Photoshop (or better still use the
original to produce another copy) and:

1) resize it to the dimensions required in the page (255 x 418 px) - actual
image dimensions now are 305 x 504px.

2) Optimise for the web - the file size should be a lot nearer 25KB than the
present 766.44KB

3) Make sure the image is saved as RGB format - it may be a CMYK format now
which will not display in Internet Explorer (but does in FireFox.)

4) (Off topic) Open the page in FireFox and use View->Zoom->Text Only,
followed by clicking the + key on numeric keypad a few times whilst holding
the Ctrl key down, or in IE use View->Text Size->Largest. The increase in
font size destroys the page - and users WILL increase the font size. Using
layers to hold text will always result in this form of disaster.
