Is there a way to change the speed on the slide show function.?

That is the simple way, else you'll need to get a program to do it for you. There is no ui setting in Windows for this.

The free PowerToy TweakUI has an option
to change the time per picture.

After TweakUI is downloaded and installed...
open it and go to...Explorer / Slide Show...
FYI...1000 = 1 second.

Go to this site and download TweakUI:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
After installing it, click on Start, All Programs.
You will see TweakUI installed there under Power Toys for Windows.
Start TwaekUI
Click on the + sign at the left of Explorer to expand it.
Click on Slide show and change the default (5000), to what you want. Each
1000 = 1 sec.
